The High Performance Computing Challenge, a group of HPC-specific benchmark applications, wants to integrate energy efficiency into its metrics. One HPC vendor, SiCortex, recently released an online calculator comparing the energy efficiency of various HPC machines.

Assistant Professor Catherine Cooper from the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences is conducting geodynamics research to analyze the interactions between tectonic plates and the Earth's mantle.

SiCortex announced a tool that will break through what some might refer to as computer vendor "greenwashing," and additionally, give IT managers the information they need to better manage increasing server energy demands.

In honor of Earth Day, SiCortex will pay for one full year of electricity costs on SC1458 and SC5832 systems purchased for research or production work related to energy conservation, ecology or global warming.

The energy efficiency of the SiCortex solution has become part of their core value proposition, and it’s not too surprising given their recent comments on the Nehalem announcement that they’d take this opportunity to differentiate themselves from Chipzilla’s pride and joy.
